Time, Talents and Treasures... Oh, and a givaway
I sometimes do not know where the time goes. I remember meeting my husband 11 years ago at a restaurant in Auburn AL. I was 18 he was 23, and he was a very cute and very obnoxious waiter! Actually, he wasn't even my waiter, but he kept coming to my table asking " Can I get you anything? Do you want some dessert? I can get you some chocolate cake." I didn't get the chocolate cake, but that waiter did "stick" in my mind for a while and it wasn't until 3 years later that we would we go on our first date! He was so nervous he couldn't eat his meal :) I can't believe that date was 9 years ago this December. I also can't believe that we have been married 7 years and have 2 kids. Where does the time go....
I also have been homeschooling my 2 girls I had with that waiter. It is going well, except the swine flu, stomach viruses, and strep throat have interrupted my already nervous teaching skills! But all is well. Homeschooling my children has actually done something for me that I didn't expect. I am seeing my children's love languages and talents. Sophia my tenderhearted, sweet, sensitive daughter....the one who made me love as a mother for the first time, is a "words of Affirmation" and an "Affection" lover! If she reads something right...make sure you praise her with words of encouragement and give her a huge hug!!!!! She lives for "Great Job", "Super", and "you are wonderful". Now, Stella....complete opposite!! I am learning she is a "Act of Service" and "Gifts" girl. If you buy her a "Barbie Nutcracker Dance" DVD and then make her a tea party and dress up with her (in a horrible mock ballerina outfit that you put together out of an old maternity bathing suit!!) She knows she is loved! Its truly amazing how 2 creatures made by the same people can be so different in how they are going to be in relationships with the people in the world! But then again they have 2 parents that God put together who have totally different ways of expressing their love and how they need love expressed.
We have different gifts, according to the grace given" Romans 12:6
This waiter and these 2 kids are my treasures. I honestly can't remember what life was like without my family with me. Its weird b/c I can't really remember just being with Christopher alone, then I can't remember what is was really like just having one child either! We are such a unit now...and life is so sweet with them. I praise my God everyday for giving these treasures to me!
So that makes me want to give gifts and treasures to you!
Question of the day...

ReplyDeleteAfter doing that study years ago, I thought that I have to be a combo of Affirmation AND Service. I need to hear it and see it in action. Angela-my 3 children are completely different from one another, also. I still struggle with remembering that each one needs totally different things from me. And I am still learning this after being a mom for almost 12 yrs (wow). Thank you for the shout out too girl :)-Wendy
ReplyDeleteLove your blog Angela! Homeschooling is such a blessing, we are loving it too! Miss seeing you lately!

HEY ANGELA!
ReplyDeleteI KEPT LOOKING AND LOOKING FOR YOU TO WRITE AGAIN!!
I REALLY, REALLY, ENJOY READING YOUR BLOG. TIME IS A FUNNY THING, IF YOU'RE ENJOYING LIFE, IT PASSES IN A BLINK OF AN EYE, IF YOU ARE IN AGONY, IT TAKES FOREVER FOR IT TO PASS. AS YOU KNOW MY CHILDREN ARE MY TREASURES, AND EACH IS A DIFFERENT GEM TO EXAMINE, POLISH AND SHINE. I CAN'T PUT INTO WORDS HOW MUCH I LOVE MINE.
I THINK MY LOVE LANGAUGE IS A COMBONATION OF WORDS AND PHYSICAL AFFECTION. I HAVE NEVER TAKEN THE TEST, BUT I LOVE TO HEAR NIGEL SAY SWEET THINGS TO ME, AND HIS HUGS ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD WONDERFUL! MY HEART MELTS WHEN MY CHILDREN COMPLIMENT ME AND SEAL IT WITH HUGS AND KISSES, I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF 'EM.
CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR 'QUEEN' AND READ YOUR NEXT ENTRY!
LOVE,
KAIRE
Ok so I receive love through service and words of affirmation. I show others I love them through service! So I guess the answer to my love language is service. However, I am pretty tired right now and don't feel like serving tonight. I want to visit your bees and have your friends check out my blog at www.monicahawkins.com

Hey. how sweet...he couldn't eat! You two are so romantic I can't stand it:-)
ReplyDeleteI am an "affection" and "words of encouragement girl". Which is hard for my hubby....bc he is an "affection" and "acts of service". So we're both always waiting for the other one to give a hug...lol! One thing about love languages is they say you have to speak to people in "theirs" not "yours"...tough to do sometimes. My oldest is like her Mommy.... I give her lots of praise....but I seem to forget to give her the hug to go along with it. Mental note to self...remember the hug:) The other two are definitely "affection" right now, too. Don't know what they'll end up with...."Growing Kids God's Way" says that some kids will want it all until they are about 7 and then it will become distinct. Think that's where my other two are:-)
I love you!
